How do I apply for a Letter of Competence (LoC)?

Modified on Wed, 17 Jul at 7:37 PM

The 2024 launch of the website introduced some improvements to our website making it easier to now access details on our LoCs, submit applications and request employer invoices. The below steps will show you how to apply.

Accessing the information

Step 1. Log in or register. To access any of our application forms, you do not need to be a member with us but you do need to at least have a registered account on our system as this will allow us to track your application and completion of pre requisite assessments. Use the top bar on FSRH.org to select whether you wish to log in to an already created account or to register for a new one.

HINT: If you believe that you may already have registered for an account and no longer know the details, do not create a new account as this will not contain any of your previous qualification or achievement history. Instead, reach out to our member support team to request they help you locate your previous information.

Once logged in, you will notice the top bar has now updated to show the below options. This means your login has been successful so you will be able to access our forms.

Step 2. Access the information pages.  Using the menu bar, hover over Education and Training (as underlined below) and you will see a menu appear which holds each of the LoC pages and the OTA page. Select whichever course you are interested in and it will open a page with information about the LoC, how to apply and any required steps.

If you are already logged in, here are some quick direct links to use.

Letter of Competence Intrauterine Techniques (LoC IUT)

Letter of Competence Subdermal Contraceptive Implants Techniques Insertion and Removal (LoC SDI-IR)

Letter of Competence Subdermal Contraceptive Implant Techniques Insertion Only (LoC SDI-IO)

Making an Application

Step 1. Finding the application areas. On any of the above pages, scroll down the How to apply section and expand each of the sub menus by selecting the plus icon to read through each section. (Example plus icon highlighted)

The current LoC application form should only be completed after the Steps 1 to 3 (shown above) have been completed. Please make sure you only select the "Submit your LoC application" option on your qualification when you have completed your training journey with your Faculty Registered Trainer (FRT).

Not sure how to find an FRT? Check out this FAQ

Been asked to complete your Online Theory Assessment (OTA) to begin training - This FAQ will get you started

Step 2. Opening the application form For the LoC SDI-IR and LoC IUT, the form will first do a check to make sure you have an active OTA on your record. If you are presented with a message that this is not found, our Support team can troubleshoot this for you. (More information here)

The second check the form does is to look for an in progress application. If you receive a message that your application is being reviewed and you think this is in error or you have more to add to a previous application, our Support team would also be able to assist with this.

If neither application check fails then your application form will open and allow you to upload your files and make payment.

Step 3. Selecting your member or non-member payment options. Complete your application details and uploads and you'll be presented with payment options.

  • Non member option - This is our standard purchase fee for the LoC. If you do not wish to take membership with us then you can pay this one off fee and it covers your qualification for a 5 year verification of your achievement.
  • Membership option - As a member of the FSRH, you receive a significant discount on this purchase fee. For those who are not already members, you have the opportunity to add membership and take advantage of this lower price by selecting this option.  Read about Associate membership here.

Hint: The two options above mean different things for recertification for this qualification. Members get free recertification every 5 years as long as they remain in membership which means membership fees must be paid each year. Non members will have to re-purchase the 5 year verification of each LoC they have to recertify. If you aren't sure which option is for you, we'd be happy to have a chat at support@fsrh.org.

Step 4. Selecting your self/employer payment options.

As you progress you then have to make a decision around payment options. Here is a description of the 3 options for you.

  • Credit/Debit card - Selecting this option will only allow you to make an immediate payment by either credit or debit card for the full amount.
  • Invoice for Employer/Trust - This option will bring up fields for you to complete which will then generate a bespoke invoice which you can download from your member portal and email to your employer. If you do not have all required invoice information before you start, it is possible to edit later through your member portal.
  • Prepaid by Employer/Trust - This option will bring up fields for you to complete which will then allow us to locate any payments from your employer and correctly allocate their payments. If you need to correct any information here after submission then please let our Finance team know via Finance@FSRH.org

Need help downloading your employer invoice? Check out this FAQ.

Step 5. Completing the application. Once the payment options are selected, take special care to check all details of you application before proceeding to the next page as you cannot hit the back button. Your application is not complete until you add the purchase to your checkout and progress to the confirmation page.

Applications are processed on a 14 working day turnaround during peak periods though we usually do get to these much sooner. Please keep all LoC paperwork until your qualification has been awarded.
